Q: What type of scanner do I need to scan and send text to my computer?

A: In most cases a USB scanner will do this. It acts as a keyboard wedge, feeding anything it scans into the field your cursor is in. For example: If you open Notepad and make sure the text cursor is in it, you can then scan a barcode to see the data appear in notepad.

RS232 scanners will not send text to a program without some type of wedge program. You can view what’s going through an RS232 port with PuTTY or Hyperterminal, but this is not the same as sending barcode data straight to a text field.

Q: Is there a program I can use to “lock out” users from changing things on the MC9090, MC75, MC3100, etc?

A: AppCenter is the program you need. It can be found on http://support.symbol.com/ and includes an Admin guide with instructions.

Q: My mobile computer (MC9190, MC9090, MC55, MC75, etc) will not connect to my wireless network. What do I need to check?

A: The number one culprit is usually incorrect wireless security settings. Units will show a good wireless connection but not get an IP address for the network when this is the case, giving a false sense of being “connected.” In this case, re-enter the wireless security settings in the wireless profile section of Fusion (wireless icon in the bottom right) and see if that corrects the problem.

In rare cases a MAC filter might be in place. If that’s the case, the DHCP server will need to be given the MAC address of the unit so it will be allowed on the network.

Also make sure the DHCP server is active and that you do not need to manually assign an IP address to the unit. In most cases, a manual IP address is not needed.

Q: How do I set an Enter (carriage return) after a scan with a barcode scanner?

A: Usually a quick start guide (QSG) from the manufacturer’s website has barcodes for this. Print and scan them to program the scanner to send an Enter after every scan.

Q: How do I send an Enter (carriage return) after a scan with a mobile computer?

A: This is usually done with whatever software is being used to scan. For example, Datawedge on an Motorola/Symbol unit such as the MC9090, MC75, MC55, etc. runs on all those units. If a custom program is powering the scanner, then that program will need to be developed with the feature included.

Q: I have an MC9190 with CE 6 and the radio is always disabled after a cold boot. Is this normal?

A: Yes, this is normal (for now). You can use RemCapture, a tool from Symbol Support, to capture the registry change from Disabled to Enabled. When implemented, this will reverse the effect.

Q: I’m getting an “Error Condition Paper Out” on my Zebra printer but media is installed. What could be causing this?

A: A few things can give a false paper out error. One solution is to set the paper length to 2 inches longer than the label being used instead of whatever default is listed (the default might be something like 40 inches). Another option is to run a special calibration on the printer. More information on this can be found here at the Zebra Support site: https://km.zebra.com/kb/index?page=home
